Gingerbread House
4cups shortening
2 cups sugar
8 eggs
4 cups molasses
22 cups flour
2T2t baking soda
1T1t cinnamon
2T2t ginger
1T salt
cream sugar and shortening then add eggs and then molasses
sift dry ingredients together and mix with shortening mixture.
if it needs more flour just add a little bit it wont hurt the recipe.
roll out and cut it to the shapes you want and bake at 350 until golden
brown. it may be soft but dont worry it will dry out and get crisper as
it cools and ages. i roll it out on parchment paper so i don’t change
the shape of it at all.
Different people can work on different sides to create a multi faceted jewel.
I found that working on each side laying flat is the best way for things to stick. I use a mixture of confectioner’s sugar and a couple of drops of milk for the glue. When all the sides including the roof have been decorated and the glue has set up and dried over night its time to build a house. You will need some wine bottles (preferably full for drinking after you are finished) for support. Put a bead of “glue” on a foil covered board and place a wall on the bead. Use 2 bottles for support, 1 on the inside and 1 on the outside of the wall so it doesn’t fall over. Make another bead at a 90˚ angle and place the next piece on the bead repeat with more bottles and more sides until 4 walls are up. On the inside of the walls where they meet push some glue to further reinforce the walls. Remove the bottles from the inside of the house and pour yourself a congratulatory glass of wine that the walls didn’t collapse. Place a bead of glue down 1 of the angles and put a side of the roof on then repeat for the other side. Let this set over night and then decorate your yard
